EXPRESS TRAIN -
FITCHBURG TO BOSTON IN 78 MINUTES

Within walking distance of the Johnsonia Building you’ll find the Fitchburg Train Station, complete with a new $6.8 million, 383-space parking garage for your convenience.

Due to ever-climbing gas prices and frustrating traffic, more and more people are using the commuter train to get to work. Because of this need, the Montachusett Regional Transit Authority (MRTA) in partnership with the Massachusetts Transportation Department recently introduced the new “Express Train” from Fitchburg to North Station in Boston. The new trip, which will shave 14 minutes off the previous journey, will allow travelers to get to Boston in one hour and eighteen minutes.

As a result, you can leave Fitchburg at 6:40 a.m. and arrive at North Station at 7:58 a.m. An unlimited monthly pass costs only $198, or $9 per workday round-trip. This is a cheaper and faster alternative for travel to Boston than driving.

And there is more good news: Arrangements are presently being made to reduce that time even further. According to local and state officials, commuters will be able to get to Boston via the Express Train in one hour within a few years.

“Getting to Boston from Fitchburg by rail is affordable, clean, and safe. In the next few years the government’s continued commitment on the federal, state, and local levels to provide rail service to Boston from Fitchburg in under an hour will become a reality. More express trains and high speed rail service will make Fitchburg the ideal commuting community to Boston.”
